Western Square Dancing, An Old Dance With Modern Ways

Square Dancing has evolved significantly in the last deacde. While it is still the national dance, no longer is it held just in barns with farmers in overalls calling out the steps. Haystacks have been replaced by air conditioning, and fiddles and banjos have been replaced with top 40 hits and classic rock.

The garb worn during the dancing has changed a bit as well. While some of the more classic square dancing rituals are still performed in the wide ruffled skirts and cowboy boots, today’s square dancers can also be found wearing dungarees, jeans (more…)

For Beginners And More, Traditional Square Dancing

Square Dancing is a fun sport that is easy for any beginner to master. Most would define square dancing as friendship set to music; simply put it is four couples in a square. A caller will call out the moves and you follow those moves.
